Both are structured courses bought rather than rented, and they disagree about what a course is for. Pimsleur is audio that makes you speak from minute one and barely mentions the written language; Rocket explains the grammar and expects you at a desk.

Pick Pimsleur if
You have a commute, a dog to walk, or a kitchen to stand in — time where your hands and eyes are busy but your mouth is free. Speaking early matters more to you than understanding why.
Pick Rocket Languages if
You want the rules laid out, you learn better seeing a language than hearing it, and reading and writing are part of what you mean by learning it.
Pick neither if
They are more complementary than competing, and plenty of people run one of each: Pimsleur in the car, Rocket at the desk. If your target is B2 or above, neither gets you there alone — both are self-study, and the gap above B1 is made of correction only a person can give.
The same target, both ways
Hours to B1 at an hour a day, five days a week — the highest level both of these support, so the only one they can honestly be compared at. Method multipliers are 1.25×–1.7× for Pimsleur and 1.25×–1.7× for Rocket Languages, rising with the level in both cases.
Identical, because the model treats both as the same study method. Whatever separates these two, it is not efficiency — so the choice is about what you will actually keep doing, and about price.

They do not stop in the same place
Rocket Languages supports up to B2 and Pimsleur up to B1. Above B1 the comparison stops being between these two and becomes a question about method — the levels past B1 are made of producing sentences you have not seen and finding out which were wrong.
Who each one is wrong for
Pimsleur
- Anyone who wants to read or write the language — the method is almost entirely spoken
- Learners who need grammar explained rather than absorbed by pattern
- People who cannot concentrate on audio alone, without a screen to look at
Rocket Languages
- Anyone who wants live correction from a human — this is a recorded course
- Learners chasing a language Rocket does not cover
- People who abandon anything longer than 15 minutes a session
