Preply vs Rocket Languages

Pick Preply if

You need accountability and correction, you will not sit down alone reliably, and a scheduled appointment is what makes you study at all.

Pick Rocket Languages if

You are self-directed, you would rather own the material than rent the attention, and you want the total cost known in advance rather than accumulating.

Pick neither if

For a first attempt at an easy language, neither is necessary yet. The free route is competitive to about B1 and costs nothing to walk away from, which most beginners eventually do.

The same target, both ways

Hours to B2 at an hour a day, five days a week — the highest level both of these support, so the only one they can honestly be compared at. Method multipliers are 1.05×–1.05× for Preply and 1.25×–1.7× for Rocket Languages, rising with the level in both cases.

What each costs over that project

Spanish to B2 at that pace runs about 21 months. Over that stretch:

• Preply — about $40/month at a normal cadence, about $840 across 21 months — and it keeps charging after that if you keep going.
• Rocket Languages — about $260 once, about $260 across 32 months — the purchase price, which does not repeat.

Prices were checked on 2026-08-07 and 2026-08-07 and go stale; confirm on each merchant's own site before paying. A one-off and a subscription are also not comparable as headline prices — the break-even is about nineteen months, and most real projects run longer than that.

They do not stop in the same place

Preply supports up to C2 and Rocket Languages up to B2. Above B2 the comparison stops being between these two and becomes a question about method — the levels past B1 are made of producing sentences you have not seen and finding out which were wrong.
