Rocket Languages vs Babbel

Pick Rocket Languages if

You want grammar explained rather than absorbed, you can sit down for forty minutes, and you would rather pay once than subscribe.

Pick Babbel if

Your study time is a commute or a queue, you want to be saying something by the end of week one, and a monthly fee you can cancel suits you better than a purchase.

Pick neither if

If your target is B2 or above, neither one gets you there alone. Both are self-study products, and the gap above B1 is made of things only a person can give you — correction, unpredictable questions, and the pressure of having to answer.

The same target, both ways

Hours to B1 at an hour a day, five days a week — the highest level both of these support, so the only one they can honestly be compared at. Method multipliers are 1.25×–1.7× for Rocket Languages and 1.3×–3.5× for Babbel, rising with the level in both cases.

What each costs over that project

They do not stop in the same place

Rocket Languages supports up to B2 and Babbel up to B1. Above B1 the comparison stops being between these two and becomes a question about method — the levels past B1 are made of producing sentences you have not seen and finding out which were wrong.
